Paul Newman

Paul has specialised in construction law since 1988. He deals with claims under standard form contracts (e.g. JCT and NEC) as well as with more informal contract arrangements, many involving domestic building work for householders. Over the years he has extended his construction law practice to include The Party Wall Etc. Act 1996, professional negligence claims concerning construction professionals and property misrepresentation claims. Paul also provides advice on non-contentious construction law to clients and prepares building agreements, professional appointments, collateral warranties and bonds and guarantees.

Paul is experienced in litigation, adjudication and arbitration. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a member of The Adjudication Society, The Society of Construction Law and TecBar. He is an accredited adjudicator and arbitrator (TecBar).

Paul became an ADR Group accredited mediator in 2001 and is listed as a mediator with the Bar Council, ADR Group and TecBar. He is a member of the Association of Wales & Border Counties Mediators and of the Association of South West Mediators. Though Paul’s mediation practice (both assisting parties and acting as mediator) is substantially based on construction disputes (particularly building defects and money claims) he has also acted as mediator in a significant number of property matters (easements, rights of way, boundary disputes) and in general commercial disputes (e.g. franchising, sale of goods and partnership).
